(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 13 - European Parliament President Roberta
Metsola opened a plenary session of the EP in Strasbourg Monday
by saying the assembly had a duty and responsibility to stop
migrant tragedies in the Mediterranean like one that killed at
least 79 at Cutro in Calabria on February 26 and another that
killed 30 off Libya on Sunday.
"We have a duty to fulfill and a responsibility, we are a
generation of politicians who cannot forget these tragedies,"
she said.
"We must not remain indifferent before these events, we cannot
accept that the Mediterranean should become a graveyard".
The EP observed a minute's silence for the victims of the Cutro
disaster, that include at least 30 children. (ANSA).
