(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 10 - Over 480 migrants were rescued at sea
Friday by the Italian coast guard's Diciotti ship as it was en
route to Lampedusa to transfer hundreds of guests from the
hotspot on the stepping-stone island south of Sicily, coast
guard sources said.
The Coast Guard vessel later arrived at Lampedusa where it took
on board 188 people who were in the hotspot, where there are
2,700 refugees compared to the 400 places officially available.
Meanwhile migrant landings continued on Lampedusa, which is
closer to north Africa than it is to Sicily.
Another 188 migrants arrived in three different boats: 38 of
them, including 13 women, were on a seven-metre boat that landed
in Cala Galera. (ANSA).
