(ANSA) - ROME, APR 2 - Regional elections began in the far
northeastern Fruli region Sunday with incumbent rightwing League
party Governor Massimiliano Fedriga tipped to hold on to his
post.
The 42-year-old Verona born Fedriga would be the first Friuli
governor to win re-election.
His chief opponent is the centre-left candidate Massimo
Moretuzzo, 47, an outgoing regional councillor who has the
centre left Democratic Party and the left-leaning 5-Star
Movement behind him.
The third main contender is Alessandro Maran, 62, for the
centrist 'third pole' of Italia Viva and Azione.
Voting will continue until eleven o'clock Sunday night and
resume from seven in the morning until three o'clock in the
afternoon Monday, when the first exit polls will be published.
