(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 21 - Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
that the European Union must reach an agreement on a new
Stability and Growth Pact, with rules for State budgets that
give greater stress to fostering growth, by the end of this
year.
"It is necessary to have new rules on the Stability Pact, based
on realistic principles after the COVID pandemic, by the end of
2023," the premier said as she reported to the Senate ahead of
this week's EU summit.
"Greater balance is needed between stability and growth.
"In the past there was more attention to stability.
"Now we need attention on growth.
"This is our priority.
"The new rules must support public investments.
"The time of austerity is over". (ANSA).
