(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 21 - A Bologna high school has prevented a
19-year-old female student with Down's Syndrome from doing the
Italian school-leaving certificate, the maturità, this year, the
Corriere di Bologna newspaper reported on World Down Syndrome
Day Tuesday.
The young woman, Nina Rosa Sorrentino, wanted to sit the
maturità at a human sciences high school in the Emilian capital.
The liceo decided not to enter her for the exam despite the
school's child neuropsychiatry unit being in favour of it, the
Corriere di Bologna reported.
Sorrentino's family decided to withdraw her from the school year
so she can make another attempt to do the leaving cert next
year. (ANSA).
