(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 23 - The Italian coast guard on Thursday
rescued around 450 migrants about 100 miles from Siracusa,
sources said.
A new rescue operation, after the rescue of some 330 mostly
Pakistani migrants 100 miles off Calabria Thursday morning, was
carried out by the Catania coast guard for a fishing boat,
spotted about 100 miles east of Siracusa, with about 450
migrants on board.
The vessel, in precarious seaworthiness conditions, was reached
and rescued by the Corsi ship and a Coast Guard patrol boat.
Three merchant ships and a Frontex patrol vessel were also on
the scene assisting. (ANSA).
