(ANSA) - ROME, APR 2 - Farm Minister Francesco Lollobrigida
said Sunday young Italians should be ready to work in the fields
picking fruit rather than lounging on the sofa at home enjoying
the 'citizenship wage' basic income which the government is
phasing out, and added that the government is set to set up safe
channels for legal migrants to do similar work.
Lollobrigida, the minister for agriculture, forestries and food
sovereignty, said: "Labour is needed in the countryside and
young Italians must know that it is not debasing to go and work
in agriculture. On the contrary, what is not a model of
civilisation is not to go to work, stay on the couch and burden
others' shoulders with the citizenship income."
Speaking at Vinitaly in Verona on the issue of legal migrant
flows, for the quotas of seasonal workers required for the
harvesting campaigns, Lollobrigida added "On the flows, there is
the will to organise them seriously, combating illegal
immigration, and to train people in the migrants' countries of
origin." (ANSA).
